Who we are

Platanus & Friends is our school’s parent and friends association, bringing together parents, teachers and educators who volunteer their time and energy to support the interests and well-being of all Platanus children and young adultes. Our aim is to actively contribute to school and kindergarten life and to provide additional support wherever ideas, commitment or financial resources can make a meaningful difference.

We support the kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and all-day program, fund educational projects and extracurricular activities, help make special resources and equipment possible, and support initiatives that enrich everyday life at our school. We also organise and support events and celebrations that bring our kindergarten and school community together and encourage exchange and interaction between children, students, parents and staff.

Another important focus of our work is helping to further develop our learning and community spaces. We support the design and improvement of the school and kindergarten buildings as well as the outdoor areas, helping to create welcoming places where children and young people feel comfortable, enjoy learning and experience a strong sense of community.

The financial resources needed for our work are raised through targeted fundraising. We rely on the support of our community and committed partners to make many of our projects possible. Every contribution – whether through time, ideas, contacts, donations in kind or financial support – helps create additional opportunities for our children.

Platanus & Friends stands for a strong sense of community and the belief that we can achieve more together. Through the commitment of many individuals, projects and opportunities emerge that enrich our children’s everyday lives and strengthen our school as a vibrant place for learning, connection and community.

The board of our Friends Association consists of 7 members and 3 owners. We meet regularly for open board meetings as well as project meetings. We also hold our General Meeting annually. You will find our charter here.

Projects and Events

We support many projects and events within the school and kindergarten – both one off and recurring events.

Friends Association Projects and Events

Magic Movie Night

The MMN is a firm date in the  school calendar for children, parents and the team. Platanus & Friends invites the kids to a movie, popcorn and hotdogs. After the movies for different ages groups we party together.

Sponsored run

Our sponsored run takes place every year in the Schlosspark. The kids raise money by running their rounds. We use this money for projects that benefit the students at Platanus Schule. The water fountain in the cafeteria is one of the projects we were able to sponsor.

summer fest

The annual Platanus summer fest is always a successful occasion to celebrate the end of the school year. Parents bring foods from around the world, the school organizes fantastic fun and games and Platanus & Friends does the drinks for young and old.

Become a member!

If we’ve inspired you to join our cause, then become a member! The monthly contribution is 3,33 Euro which amounts to a yearly contribution of 40 Euro. Here you can find the membership application.

Grant Application

Have you developed an idea or a project for your class, the school or the kindergarten but lack the money for implementation? Then ask us! Please fill out a grant application and send it to us via E-Mail or via post. Please also consider the financial criteria. We make all grant application decisions together with school leadership after detailed consultation and dependant on available funds.

Paper recycling competition

For us, your old paper is by no means invaluable. When you throw your paper in the blue bin with the red lid in our schoolyard, the reward comes through to us from the company Bartscherer. What can be collected? Newspapers, journals, magazines, leaflets, catalogues, printed and unprinted paper as well as brochures.
