Movement, Team Spirit and the Joy of Sports – A special Month!
May was all about movement at Platanus – full of athletic highlights, team spirit, and real commitment from our students, staff, and parents.
We kicked things off with our annual sponsored run, organized and supported by our parents’ association Platanus & Friends. Under sunny skies, students from all grades, many staff members, parents, and even a family dog ran together for a good cause. The donations raised will once again help fund exciting new projects and purchases for our school – a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed so generously!
Just one week later, we kept the momentum going with our Sports Day at the Kissingensportplatz. As part of this event, our students also participated in the Bundesjugendspiele, giving their best in classic track and field disciplines. With diverse activity stations, exciting games, and great team spirit, it was clear: sports keep us fit – and are lots of fun!
Our school was also represented at the Pankow Cup football tournament. Unfortunately, the event had to be called off early due to heavy rain, but until then, our teams gave it their all and played with fairness and dedication. We have a new date to continue on 4 July!
At the same time, many of our students, parents, and staff are participating in Stadtradeln, cycling as many kilometers as possible to support climate action – until June 5. This initiative perfectly combines environmental awareness and physical activity, both important values at our school. So far, Team Platanus includes 78 riders who have already cycled 4,292 kilometers, completed 724 rides, and avoided 704 kg of CO₂. Let’s keep it up – every ride counts!
Once again, May has shown us that physical activity is fun, builds community, and is an essential part of everyday school life at Platanus. We are proud of the athletic energy of our school community and would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment – especially our PE teachers Mr. Barrett, Mr. Kaminski, Mr. Woythe, and Mr. Meyer. You inspire and motivate us with fresh ideas for events, clubs, competitions, and tournaments.
(As a small side note, we would like to share a sporting success outside of school: Our sports teacher Mr Meyer and his team from SV Empor Berlin won the German championship in the over-35 age group in basketball for the first time in the club’s history. We say: Congratulations!!)
