Change of perspective – wheelchair basketball with Alba Berlin!
Our Sports Department has organised a mega-cool sports project day and invited Santi, the coach of the Alba Berlin wheelchair basketball teams, to our Platanus School.
The students of classes 6a and 7a were able to be active in a whole new way today and try out how to play basketball in a wheelchair. They learned about the similarities between walking and walking-impaired people in the game of basketball, but also that this game in a wheelchair requires much more mental coordination and different motor skills.
This experience was horizon-expanding for our students, who also learned how important and meaningful sport can be, especially when you are physically limited.
Our head of sports, Mr. André Galhardo, had the great idea for this special integrative project day and we thank him as well as our sports teachers Mr. Woythe and Mr. Meyer for the organisation and realisation. And of course we thank Santi and Alba Berlin for providing the wheelchairs and for running this special project day. We are enthusiastic about your work with people with walking disabilities.
More information about wheelchair basketball at Alba Berlin can be found here: https://www.albaberlin.de/jugend/vereinssport/rollstuhlbasketball/.
We hope to run this project day every year so that all classes have the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball.
